On March 28-29th, 2009 at the Tacoma Unit in Spanaway, the NW Sport Horse Breeders Asso is hosting our second annual schooling show. Last year was Dressage. This year we are offering Dressage classes on Saturday and Hunter/Jumper classes on Sunday. Combined Tests are offered combining the two days for those interested. All sorts of fun classes will be available, including musical freestyle. View the class list and entry forms on our website: www.nwshba.comWe will be offering a wide variety of neat prizes to choose from for first place, and ribbons. If you have something you would like to donate for prizes, or would like to sponsor a section, you can have a full page ad in our program! Sponsorship forms are available on our website as well. Also, COME ONE, COME ALL! On Friday evening, we will be hosting a "Social" at 6pm as we visit, eat, and drink. This is open to all, including NWSHBA members or members-to-be, and schooling show participants and guests! Any help we can get setting up the dressage arena will also be greatly appreciated. Volunteer positions are still needed for Saturday- scribes, runners, and office help. Sunday jump crew help and timers are needed. We look forward to seeing you there!!

I have been out of this for awhile-showing anyway. Is there a place online that I can get the updated test? I have a horse that I would like to start showing. Do they ask for extension in Dressage Equitation Dressage Suitabillty and Dressage Materiale? Would like to know a bit more so I know what to put her in w/o getting over her head. It'd be basically her first show. Ideas?

Janette I've been thinking about this show too. Isn't Dressage Materiale an in hand class? Not sure why but I was thinking it was. I'm working on a link to the tests, the USDF website makes them impossible to find. ~Misty

NOt sure. Interested to find out. Yah, the sooner I know what the classes are about the better it is for me to be able to work with Sunshine on it.

So I found this about materiale classes, they are under saddle but in a group, like a breed show
What is materiale? Materiale classes are not part of the USDFBC Series, but are often held in conjunction with the Series. Horses entered in a Materiale class will be ridden in a group and judged on movement, potential as a dressage horse, and an overall general impression. Movement, walk, trot, and canter, should demonstrate purity and quality, and correctness. Movement at trot and canter should be big, light, and springy. Materiale classes may be offered in the following categories: Three-year old Fillies, Three-year old Colts and Geldings, Four and Five-year old Mares, and Four and Five-year old Stallions and Geldings. Classes for fillies and mares may not be combined with classes for colts, geldings, or stallions. (USEF DR 133.1) Horses must be at least 36 months of age to participate in Materiale Classes. For competition purposes, the age of a horse is considered to be one-year old on the first day of January following the actual date of foaling. A sample score sheet can be seen in the current USDF Directory. Also, see the competition handbook.
Still can't find the tests, though. I found intro level A and B...still looking for training leve.

Hey all, been having computer troubles, so sorry I couldn't respond to your questions! Misty got the Materiale right on. The judges will ask for walk, trot, and canter, and they can throw in some lengthenings at the trot and canter if they need to see more. Mostly they just judge the natural movement and balance of the horse, giving a score for each gait and an overall impression score. Dressage equitation is shown as a group as well, and also depends upon the level of riders as to what will be asked. The judge wants to see a balanced, effective rider at all 3 gaits, and may ask for sitting trot, lengthenings, easy patterns, etc. Suitability is similar to materiale. Dressage tests are found on the USEF website: www.usef.org and the Intro tests are on the www.usdf.org website. Just a reminder that the closing date for all dressage classes and combined tests is March 21st! We don't have many entries yet, so please sign up soon to ensure that we can still host the show! We are offering a nice variety of awards, so come join the fun!!

My thing is with Sunshine is lengthenings of strides. She gets to be too much sometimes. I probably won't go, unfortunatley as much as I want to. I have been CRAZY busy. I haven't ridden as much as I would like too. I am sure there will be some other shows coming up.

So who is going? I'm probably going to be there with a friend of mine. Just watching though.
I figure Janette won't be there, but what about Allison and Misty?
