I'm not terribly serious about this at this point, but I am thinking of possibly trading our 13hh POA Toby for a more easy going finished horse. With his spook issues, I can't afford to get on him again, and my daughter isn't experienced enough to work with him. And I have to admit, I am now just a bit afraid of him since my fall.
He is a SWEET horse, wants to please very much. I think he has just sat too long (2 years) with no riding before we got him this summer, and he just needs miles. I've been working with him just a little every day, waving things around him, grabbing at him through the stall boards, doing things that get to him to work and desensitize him.
I won't ride him though.
He is fantastic on trails, a little mountain goat. He doesn't need shoes, feet hard as a rock. He stands great for the farrier, he loads *fairly* well. By that I mean it takes about 5 minutes and patience. He will always hesitate, and then he will get in. I've never had him refuse, but he's not like my mare who will hop into anything with no hesitation.
He is due for his vaccines this month and will be getting them when I return from vacation on the 8th.
I am still waiting on his papers from the former owners. Apparently he's triple registered, but I'm not sure what the other 2 registries are. He's got a long beautiful mane and tail, and loves to be brushed and groomed, but hates to have a bath!
No kick or bite at all. Shy but very sweet.
I have seen him buck though, and I know he will do it. His former owner said that if he bucks, smack his rump and tell him to cut it out. Well, I can't afford to get on a horse that bucks AT ALL, so I have no clue if that works or not!
I have tons of pictures, and am happy to answer any questions.
We are basically looking to trade for an older trail horse that is easy going and that has no spook.
I don't care if the horse is upwards of 15-20 years, as long as it's an easy keeper in really good health. My mare is 21 this year and acts like a 5 year old. We prefer a gelding, and another mustang would be awesome, but what matters most is that I can ride without worrying about the horse being spooky.
PM or email me at kigermustang@comcast.net if you want to talk!
Thanks
I will be trying to work with him this winter in our friends arena if I can't trade him. I will do basic groundwork with him to hopefully help him with his confidence issues.
EDIT: We paid $1350 for him so looking to trade for a horse a similar value!
