I will be screening whoever wants him, and I assure you he needs to go to a patient, loving, knowledgeable, and experienced person. He is a WONDERFUL horse, but quirky. You can see about him on my blog www.horsetales.blogspot.com . I can tell you more via email andreav@turbonet.com. He is a 12 or 13 year old (can't remember year of birth, but day is 6/10, have papers, can look up), National Show Horse (ArabXSaddlbred) gelding. He is a good boy. Just came home from 3 weeks professional training. Trainer said he could be a trail horse but it is going to be constant work. He is fine for a long time and then freaks out a bit. No bucking, just increased speed (trot). He will also stand tied just fine sometimes, but not others. He has recently fallen down and hurt himself when pulling back. The vet thought he would be fine. I will probably post more detail later, or you can email me. My husband is having a fit about the horses. I am considering having him (Lyric) euthanized due to mental issues, but I'd like to give him a chance at a good home first. I know there are people out there who like horses like him. I am really worried that if the wrong person takes him (inexperienced) he could hurt someone without meaning to, or end up going to the canner. I'd rather have him put down than have that happen. He really tries hard for those he trusts, but he still has his really scared moments. Danni will also be up for sale soon. You can see her on my above-mentioned blog as well. She's a wonderful riding horse, just a little goey, but she has narcolepsy. Safe fencing and no protruding sharp things would be important. She does fall forward to one knee. She has raced, done gaming, dressage and western pleasure. Was a teen's 4H mount before we bought her. Tonka and Soxy are NOT for sale Mack, the new horse, isn't yet a done deal, so if someone likes what they see in him, my sister may still be selling him for $2500. Have to wait for my husband to cool down before asking him to decide on that one. We rarely have disagreements, but he's pretty hot about how much time and money the horses take up, which is a valid concern.

Maybe you could check with cowgirl spirit rescue drill team and see if they might want to work with him, and then find him a good adoptive home.

I don't know anything about Cowgirl Spirit, other than that they had some "political" issues that looked pretty ugly a year or more ago. Makes me nervous. But I may consider looking into something like that.

The blogspot link should be working now. It was including the last period in the link, so I moved it over.

Ya know Deanne, that's a good idea. They work with all types of horses. I think what they do is good. Don't know what you heard, I didn't hear anything.

What is your take on why he "freaks"? Is it possible he is herdbound and acts up to see what he can get away with so he can return to the herd? And what injury did he receive? I know you had been riding him some, how far did you get with him?
He is such a beauty, it must be heartbreaking for you to have to give him up. I would consider taking him and just keeping him as a pasture buddy........I dont mind having them as pets..... does he show any "freakness" when he is with other horses?
Sorry for all the questions.... just wondering if he would be something I would want to take on.

He doesn't always have any reason for doing what he does. Often we're left wondering "what the heck?" And he really doesn't do much... If tied, he'll pull back. I'd suggest not tying him, or if you do, use a blocker tie ring and know he may get free. (I haven't used the tie ring on him, but it may be a wonderful thing for him.) In a stall/run, he'll suddenly freak and run outside, even if you're standing in the way. Nobody ever got hurt, but he sure came close to knocking me down once. Under saddle with the trainer, he'd be fine for a while, then kind of booger out to the side. Nothing big. But not fun if you don't ride well, or if you want a more relaxed ride. He never did that when I rode him around the field, but I never rode for more thatn 10 minutes or so, and always at a walk. He appeared to be a good ride at the trot, smooth and gorgeous. He'd be a great dressage horse if you took your time with him. Except that he hates to be bitted. I had great luck riding him in a rope halter, but then I wasn't asking much of him.
I don't think he's herdbound. He's usually happy to leave his herd, but we don't go terribly far. He's not totally focused on the other horses when we're asking him to work though. I think he thinks we're part of his herd. When we take all the other horses away though, he doesn't like being left behind. Runs and whinnies and all that. Which is another reason I'd love to see him trained, I think he'd really like to join everyone and get out and do some things.
With other horses, he is clearly the boss, and will sometimes chase them out of a stall or away from food. He's not violent, mostly just really ugly faces and posturing, sometimes biting. He does scare them into moving fast at feeding time, which isn't always a good thing.
Most days he's a good boy, if a bit alert. Some days you'd be better to leave him alone, he's just a scared mess. Recently we had the vet out on a rainy, windy day, and the mixture of the bad weather with moving them all to a small corral messed up his routine enough that he got all in a sweat and was all white eyed and worried through the whole vet visit.
He's hard to catch, but if approached correctly you can catch him quickly on a good day.
He really is just a worried guy. The world is a scary place for him. He can't help it. I often feel really bad for him on his bad days, all terrified. I'm fairly sure he's never been abused. I think it's just his breeding, looking for a "showy" horse who's on his toes with head up, eyes white, and tail in the air. It is pretty, but it's sad for him.
He's also a total love. Once he's your buddy, he'd like nothing more than to stand around with his nose on your head and sigh while you scratch his neck.
He pulled back really hard when tied and his legs went out from under him and he fell. Scraped up a few areas. His neck a bit behind the poll was acting a bit strange, but the vet wasn't concerned, and it's a lot better now. Still a little sore, I think. It'd be hard to explain. I'll give it a shot though. When I held his nose in and flexed his head from side to side, with my hand just behind the poll, the top of his neck would suddenly shift to the side as I flexed his head to the side. If he had his nose stuck out you wouldn't feel the shift. I was also a little concerned about one hind leg, he was setting it down a bit funny, but I don't see it bothering him now. It might be worth doing a soundness test if you were planning on using him. He's always been totally sound, but who knows what he hurt when he fell.
I'd really like him to go to a home where he'll be ridden by someone who really knows what they're doing, but I'd consider letting him go as a pet to the right place. I really don't want him aging before his time because he's not getting exercise. And if he got training and experience under saddle, he'd have more worth, in case something happened and he had to be sold. I don't want him to end up at the canner. It seems my husband can't stomach having him euthanized any more than I can, so he's safe from that, but we'd rather not keep him as a pet if we can find him a better home.
