I need to re-home a 12 year old Saddlebred Gelding that I have had for almost a year. I am moving to Central Oregon in a couple months and need to find Shammy a home before then. He is incredibly sweet and needs a home that can provide him with love, shelter and an adequate diet. Shammy is a palomino gelding that stands over 15.0 hands. He is perfect for the Farrier and the Vet. Shammy is broke to ride, but needs an experienced rider because he tends get excited. He doesn't develop a thick winter coat so he needs to be blanketed in the colder months to keep him warm, or he will drop weight. His current diet consists of Orchard Grass Hay and daily grain. Shammy is sway backed and needs a rider that is lighter than myself. He has not shown any soreness related to his sway back but that is always a possibility. I feel that in order for Shammy to be a content and happy horse he needs to be with someone that gives him more attention, and a job to do. Shammy is also a cribber; wearing a cribbing collar seems to lessen the frequency, but I never really made him wear one because his cribbing doesn't bother me and my vet said his teeth had not shown any signs of cribbing. Shammy's rehoming fee is $500, which is negotiable to the right home. It is really important to me that he goes to a good home. Please contact me if you would like more information at youngnm19@yahoo.com Here are a couple pics from last summer.

He is a nice lookin' boy!! For $500!! I can almost bet he's sway backed because he did a lot of halter showing when he was younger. They have to stretch out real far. Ya know Enchanted Acers is having a sale on May 12. They have Saddlebreds, NSH and Arabs. They might know someone?

Thanks for the info. He is definitely sway backed, and with me weighing 165lbs probably doesn't help him much. I am in the process of moving to Central Oregon and would like to only move down there with 4. If I can't find him a great home then I will just take him with me, but I know there is somone out there who understands Saddlebreds and can give Shammy the life he needs. He sure acts like he was a show horse in his day, and he is a hoot to ride, but I am more of a QH person.

Saddlebreds are a lot of fun. This is the perfect time of year to find a home for him, I'm sure you'll have no problem.
Have you tried posting him on Craigslist. Just state there is an Adoption Fee and that usually keeps people from "flagging" your post off the board. The lady that bought my colt, found him on Craigslist.
He's a beautiful horse.

Thanks Alisa. I put an ad on Craigslist a few days ago and got a couple of replies. I also put him up on Dreamhorse, and have received quite a few through there. I am keeping my fingers crossed for the perfect home for him.
