If they are at the "rescue" then why are they in danger of going to slaughter? Not trying to start an arguement, just curious.
And yes DeAnne, I was at their website a few days ago, and they have a lot of nice looking horses.

What people dont realize is that the "rescue" buys horses at the canner yard. People bring the horse in and sell it to the canner. Typically, there is a reason the horse is there. For what they give for canner horses, last time I checked it was 13 cents per pound, if the horse had any other use, it would not have been hard to sell it another way.
No one forces anyone to take a horse to a canner buyer.
This "rescue" buys the horse, then resells it. If this was anyone else, they would be labeled a horse trader.
Dont you find that interesting? I do.

I have known several horses who have come from that rescue. They have turned into lovely mounts. You would not believe what goes through there. Some people are just out to make a quick buck. There is nothing wrong with a lot of the stock out there, but there are a few horses that need some medical help that someone just wanted to unload because the horse is really old. You can go directly to the feedlot owner and buy the horses without going through Columbia Basin as well.

I have been there many times. What I dont think you realize is the man is a buy/sell/trade. Not every horse he has come in goes to slaughter. I doubt the "rescue" tells you that. He buys horses that he turns around and sells or trades.
He's a horse trader. He says that right on his sign. Where as the "rescue" claims that the horses they get from there are all slaughter bound, which they are not.
This "rescue" is just another horse trader.

I am fully aware of this. I do not have an opinion on CB. It is a resource if one wants to go that route. That is why I said that you can buy from the dealer directly. All I was saying is that there are some nice prospects there.

And all I was saying is there is a reason people bring those horses into there to sell to the canner buyer. He is a buyer/seller/trader. Not every horse he buys goes to the can. The rescue doesn't tell people that.
In my opinion, this rescue is nothing more than just another horse trader.

I totally agree with you Zim. I have been watching this so called rescue for the last two years. They are just making a buck off of the horse trader and make it sound like the horses are leaving on a truck to the canner to get people to buy them.

There is even a really cute mule. Cute Mule? You mean a human attacking biting mule! People do not be fooled. This is not a legitimate rescue! This place has one agenda-to SELL horses for a profit!

I have watched posts on this "rescue"(at another board) for quite some time. I have seen folks go and buy horses with money they really didnt have to spend on another horse. They were buying the horse under the pretense that they were rescuing it from slaughter.
Guys, I know a fellow that used to haul the horses to the plant, I KNOW what goes to the plant, what the plant will accept, and more importantly, what they won't.
So many of the horses "rescued" would not have gone to the plant. They were bought from a horse trader, and resold. To me, thats just another horse trader.
Nothing more.

Found this on craigslist. Confirms this place is NOT a rescue!
CBER and their joint ventures....

So here we go again, they post on their bb that 2 fillies are going BACK TO THE FEEDLOT if they arent adopted by a certain date. What rescue doesnt help? CBER. What rescue threatens the feedlot and slaughter truck? CBER. They claim this person ISNT involved with CBER. Here is what was posted on the bb. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
MANGO - Will be taken to Feedlot on 9/7/06! « Thread Started on Yesterday at 9:31pm »
Mango and another community rescue yearling filly (Duffy) must be adopted by Thursday 9/7/06 or they will be taken to the feedlot. After listing Mango for 6 months she has still to be adopted. Duffy was placed but her home has fallen through, so she will also go to the feedlot on Thursday. Duffy is a bay yearling filly draft cross. Mango and Duffy were both rescued from the meat buyers at a sale.
Each filly is listed at $350, but when they go to the feedlot (where they will be at risk of shipment, exposed to horse diseases and injury from older horses) they will cost more. Adopt them now and save them the trauma of going to the feedlot. Rescuer is moving and CAN NO LONGER KEEP THEM. Contact kaymacbean@yahoo.com or call 206-218-2548 for more information or call 509-929-7433 to set up a time to see them. They are both in Ellensburg.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And here is part of an email from a CBER Board member stating their "joint venture" with this person.
hey there...totally understand what you are asking here. here is the current scoop. fillies are located in ellensburg at a gal named charlene's place. she rescued them and we listed them for her as we have done joint ventures with her before. i am having trouble getting ahold of her to get updates. i have left messages and will do that again after this mail. i agree that she needs to provided some updates, all we can do is just keep asking and hoping. i am not even sure which if any of those little gals are available.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Instead of stepping up to the plate and saving these 2 fillies, they are trying to sell them to the bleeding hearts of the bb because they can scream "the truck is coming" and people jump. What person associates themselves with a RESCUE and then threatens to send horses to the feedlot, yet CBER does nothing about it? More and more people are waking up. They arent a rescue. Chuck the feedlot owner said he would never kick them out because they make him to much money. Direct quote.
Again, what rescue would sit on their ass and say a horse is going to the feedlot and expect others to bail them. This is non rescue, they sell horses PERIOD.
this is in or around Yakima, WA

I have to agree with the other posters here about CBER. Although I do frequent their webpage looking at the horses. However, I just like to look at the different horses. Most of the time the price is right... I have noticed the prices have increased over this past year.
Kind of the same reason I like to attend Horse Auctions... I like to look at all the different horses, sometimes I have brought one home, but most of the time I have not.

Their prices are too high for most people to be interested. When you can go to an auction and get a horse for $200-$300, there's no sense going through the hassle of an application, reference checking, etc to get the same horse for $800.

There is a pony on that site that... if I had the time, money and ambition, I'd love to take her home. Don't care who is selling her, she's cute!
