Okay well you all know where to find pics of the bucklings for sale, but here are the pics of the yearlings. We have the two black does, Fallon and Willow and the red buck, Yucca. They're not the greatest pics... Yucca was hard to get a pic of. He gets picked on in the herd up there and then the dog came up so none of them stayed very still. The girls were slightly easier to photograph because Kissy helped. These three are Rosie's babies from last year.

I have babies every year and sometimes twice a year. I really need to stagger my milkers now that I've lost my two best does...

What does that mean "stagger my milkers"?!

Ok it goes like this... A goat get's pregnant and starts producing milk, after the babies are weaned you still milk them but keep all the milk, then you breed them again, (for instance the girls had babies in Feb. I'll breed them in Sept).... At about the 2nd to 3rd month of pregnancy you have to dry them off. That means you stop milking them and let them dry up and stop producing milk. (My girls will be dried off around November this year - unless I stagger them, breed some sooner or some later). So for 2 to 3 months you have no milk unless you stagger the milkers.
That means that you breed them at different times so that you still have at least one doe in milk when the others are dried off. It also means you get babies at different times of the year and sometimes the 'late' babies are hard to sell so you might end up being stuck with them until they're yearlings or older. Most people won't stagger the milkers unless they're running a dairy. Goat kids need other goat kids the same age to play with so I haven't staggered the milkers before, I only had two does kid last year. But I need milk year round so now that I have enough does I'm going to stagger them for next year so I can have milk all the time.
Does that make sense?

The yearling does are going to go spend some time with Bucky now. I have the pen set up so it will hopefully contain them (we'll see how that goes LOL). I'll leave them in for a month unless I see some action. Which means they would be due to kid sometime around July to August.
So if anyone wants one of the yearlings, Fallon or Willow, they will be available the end of March or the beginning of April. The buck that's going in with them is registered so the babies could be registered as well.
I may have one baby buckling errr wether taken. They're going to come and look at him this weekend. The rest are still available, weaning will be the first week of April.

Oh yes, that makes perfect sense now. Thanks. I can't wait to see all the babies again next year. Hopefully by that time I'll be able to buy some.

Just to let you know the original thread was from last year, so not sure if they still check this board.
If you are looking for Nubies, I have a friend in Blanchard and possibly one in elk that may have babies avialable now or really soon. I also have a girl that I am sending a pregnancy test in on tomorrow to see if she is preggers! ;D
